OSFED (Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorder)
OSFED is often misunderstood because it doesn’t fit neatly into the categories of anorexia, bulimia, or binge eating disorder (BED). However, OSFED encompasses a range of eating disorder behaviors that can be equally destructive. People with OSFED may experience severe food restriction, binge eating, purging, or disordered eating patterns without meeting the specific criteria of other eating disorders. This doesn’t make their experience any less valid or serious.
These behaviors are often complex and overlapping and require personalized care to address the unique needs of the individual. Like other eating disorders, OSFED carries the risk of refeeding syndrome, nutrient deficiencies, and long-term physical and psychological consequences.
